Who Will My Boy Mimic?

Children are known mimics.  It's scary.  Scary for us parents.  Our son, Brady, is becoming an expert mimic.  I've found this can be good and bad.  That's what is so scary.  He mimics everything, whether good or bad.

A few weeks ago while in traffic, a car cut us off so quickly I had to swerve and hit the brakes.  I said, "Oh, crap!"  In perfect form, Brady instantly parroted back, "Oh, cap!"  Cap indeed.  That's the scary side of things.

But he also mimics the good things too.  Not just things we say but things we do as well.  While shaking hands with the guys at church, Brady insisted that he be allowed the dignity of the same greeting.  He insisted on shaking hands with everyone I did.  Hmmm.

Kids learn so quickly.  He sings along with his mother when she sings the ABC's and is delighted to do so.  And speaking of singing, we sang "Standing on the Promises" for the closing song tonight.  Brady has heard it before but it also has repeating lines.  So by the fourth verse Brady was "singing" along with us, mimicking what we sang as best he could... and he kept time and everything.

It makes me proud... and petrified.  If I am to raise a child to be a disciplined, respectful, courteous and Godly, that means I have to give him that template to mimic.
